Warning: clinics that skip cardiac screening are putting you at risk

I need to post this because someone in my local recovery group almost died. He found a cheap "ibogaine ceremony" online — $1,800, no medical screening required, no EKG, no bloodwork. The person running it described themselves as a "trained facilitator." He had an undiagnosed prolonged QT interval. During the session he experienced a serious cardiac event. He survived, but only because the local ER was 8 minutes away. **This is not fear-mongering. This is what corners cut on safety look like.** If a provider offers ibogaine without: - A pre-treatment EKG at minimum - Comprehensive bloodwork - Detailed medication and health history review - Continuous cardiac monitoring during treatment - Licensed medical staff on-site ...then they are not a medical provider. They are someone playing with your life. The cardiac risks of ibogaine are real but manageable. The Stanford study, the Beond Health data, the Mexican medical clinics that have treated thousands of patients safely — they all do so because they take the screening seriously. Please, please do not book with anyone who doesn't require proper medical screening. The price difference is not worth your life. Our [cardiac safety guide](/safety/cardiac-risks) has more detail on what proper screening involves.
